Headquartered in New Delhi, Snapdeal was launched on February 4th, 2010, and is India’s #1 daily-deal site in India in terms of traffic. They now have a presence in 32 Indian cities and 4 countries outside India including Singapore & the US and are growing fast. They already have over a million subscribers and are adding a new subscriber every 4 seconds.
Although SnapDeal have been in the market for only just over a year, the reason for their stupendous growth can be attributed to the fact that they had entered the market on the back of strong established tie-ups with retailers from Jasper’s (the parent company of SnapDeal) already existing couponing business. And of course, they also advertised heavily online and in TV commercials (and still do!). Having already captured over 70% of the Indian market by transaction, they are now looking forward to acquire a couple of niche players. They’d already acquired Bangalore based startup Grabbon.com in June last year. Their estimated revenue for this year is $20MM.
It’s worth noting that the 400 employee strong SnapDeal team had overtaken the mighty Groupon in global alexa traffic rankings briefly! SnapDeal plans to enter more verticals too. The Getaways section in their already deals exclusively in travel/holiday deals. The parent company has other ventures – babyBOX.in & MoneysaverPrime.com.
